CORPS MEMBERS DONATE CASH, NOODLES TO INTERNALLY DISPLACED CHILDREN

As a mark of their readiness to give back to the society, today Red cross volunteers among Corps members deployed to Adamawa state for the 2019 Batch 'A' service year paid a visit to an internally displaced persons camp, near NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Damare, Girei LGA, Adamawa state, where they made donations of N31,000.00 and indomie noodles to children.

NYSC Coordinator in the state, Mallam Abubakar Mohammed, represented by the Press and Public Relations Officer, Mr. Yusufu Philibus saluted the Corps members for starting their national service on a bright note, by identifying with the vulnerable children, most of whose parents have been killed by Boko Haram insurgence.

"I sincerely thank you for taking cognizance of the fact these children are in dire need of food and other necessities of life, in order to recover from the trauma they went through in the hands of terrorists in parts of Borno and Adamawa states, which is why they found themselves here. The memory of this historic visit will forever remain green with them.

While I commend you for a job well done, I wish to call on other philanthropists to also come and give succor to these and other IDPs in all parts of this great state, so that the inmates will have a sense of belonging" he said.

Turning to the children, Mallam Mohammed said "We are aware most of you are here as orphans, who are in need of love and care. That's the reason these young Nigerian graduates deemed it expedient to come and give you these food items and cash. I urge you not to take this privilege for granted" he added.

He equally charged the children's parents to make sure they get educated, so as not to fall prey to unscrupulous persons that may want to recruit them into bad companies in future.

Also speaking during the presentation of the items, the Public Relations Officer of the group, Mr. Ali Anwar (AD/19A/1147) thanked the NYSC Scheme for affording them the opportunity to touch the lives of the IDPs.

Responding, the IDP camp Chairman, Mallam Yahaya Hamdal expressed gratitude to the Corps members for the visit and the donations.
