NYSC LAUNCHES TWIN ZEBRA CROSSINGS IN YOLA

As part of its statutory responsibilities to create awareness among Nigerians on good road usage habits, the NYSC/FRSC Community Development Service group inaugurated two zebra crossings in the capital of Adamawa state today.

Speaking at the locations of the projects, situated near Capital School, Jimeta and Aliyu Mustapha College, Yola-town, the NYSC Adamawa State Coordinator, Mallam Abubakar Mohammed stated  that the age-long partnership between NYSC and FRSC has yielded expected results in the area of ensuring that Nigerians cultivate good ethics of using roads.

He eulogized FRSC for training Corps members adequately on global best practices of road safety, and also applauded the Corps members for designing the zebra crossings, which he said will go a long way in assisting the students of the two institutions and other pedestrians in crossing the busy roads around their schools.

Mallam Mohammed advised the students to adhere strictly to the rules guiding the use of the crossings.

Reacting, the Vice Principal of the junior section of Capital School, Mr. Suleiman Garbage thanked NYSC for bringing succor to the students, whom he said used to find it very difficult to cross from one side of the roads to the other, owing to heavy traffic of vehicles.

The President of the CDS group, Ugwu U. Kingsley who spoke earlier on the inspiration behind the project said "it is part of our little contribution to the development of our host community. We felt the crossings are necessary, considering the fact that where we designed them are portions of the two roads which are capable of causing havoc to our younger brothers and sisters in the two schools.

"We sincerely appreciate NYSC and FRSC for giving us this platform to add value to the lives of road users in the two communities."

High point of the event was a demonstration of how to use the crossings, led by a Chief Route Commander in the Adamawa state Command of the FRSC, Mr. Ibukilebu A. Nimeze, who stood in for the Sector Commander at the ceremony.
